FPO Ready as EPCS Implementation Kicks Off
Transition to the EPCS electronic system for prescribing of controlled substances
has largely been a success so far, according to ColumbiaDoctors chief medical information officer Timothy J. Crimmins, MD, RPVI. Enrollment currently stands at 78%, well within expectations for this point in the transition, and the EPCS Navigator program has effectively helped providers with any challenges in signing on.
A stand-alone EPCS option is also now available for prescribers not on CROWN.
There have been some challenges, however.A fix was recently installed to combat an issue noted during the week of March 16, when, 904 controlled substance transmissions were made, with an 8% failure-to-transmit rate.
“This change should have a significant effect before the March 27 deadline,” said Dr. Crimmins, with 95% of e-prescriptions successfully transmitted in the week prior to deadline. “Meanwhile, prescribers can monitor their task lists for notification of failed transmissions. We are cautiously optimistic and ready to address whatever situation declares itself in the near future.”
